Father of three year old shot and killed in Youngstown speaks out
At about 4:30pm Monday afternoon, Robert Paul said he'd heard the sound of gunfire coming from the home of his son Keilub's mother and a short time later, he went over to check it out.
However when he got there the unthinkable happened.
"My son was unresponsive, they took him to the hospital," Paul said. "We got to the hospital, he was already gone. Three years old. Didn't even get to live his life," he said.
Youngstown Police Lieutenant Mohammad Awad tells 21 News the child was shot in his side. He adds they've been working around the clock to get more answers, but the mother's side of the family is not cooperating and on top of that, he said their story doesn't add up.
"I couldn't sleep last night because of that, so it's kind of starting to get to me that all of this happened when he was three years old," Paul said.
The police report suggests it's being investigated as accidental but they're still waiting for the autopsy to come back.
After that, prosecutors will decide if charges are forth coming. The lack of cooperation is frustrating to Paul. His final message to anyone who may be responsible is to do the right thing.
"You guys need to go ahead and turn yourselves in. Tell the truth. Think about Keilub, he didn't do nothing to any of you," Paul said.
