Work on the Market Street Bridge, including refurbishment and repairs, will begin Monday in downtown Youngstown.

Lane restrictions will be required throughout the project, with one traffic lane in both directions being maintained at all times.

Beginning April 14, the northbound lanes on the east side of the bridge will be blocked off, and traffic will be shifted to the west lanes.

Once all work on the bridge's east side is complete, the blocked lanes will be switched, shifting traffic back to the east lanes and blocking off the west.

Construction efforts will consist of:

  • The replacement of bridge lighting, strip seals, compression seals and joint armor
  • Adding horizontal extensions to existing expansion joints
  • Installation of a new 8' vandal protection fence
  • Installation of a new micro silica concrete overlay (at the north end of the bridge)
  • Concrete patches at multiple locations
  • Structural steel repairs
  • Miscellaneous repairs to the drainage system
  • Epoxy and resin sealing to substructure, parapet and deck surfaces

The contractor is BG Trucking & Construction Company from North Lima.

They will have 240 days to complete the project, with the project being completed by December 10.

The project has a total budget of $3,723,104.
