The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced a recall of puppy and kitten food for potential Salmonella and Listeria contamination.
According to the release, Blue Ridge Beef is recalling nearly 1,100 pounds of two-pound logs of Puppy Mix Lot #N251230 and #N260114. Lot numbers are stamped in the clips on the end of the bags.
Salmonella and Listeria can affect animals if they eat the product and humans if they've handled contaminated items.
People who are infected with either bacteria could have symptoms including nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal cramps and fever. Pets with Salmonella or Listeria infections may be lethargic, have diarrhea or a fever.
Some pets may also become lethargic, have a decreased appetite or abdominal pain.
The products were distributed between January 3 and January 24 in nine states including Pennsylvania.
