According to a news release from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Struthers has received $18,548 in grant funding.

The funding comes in the third round of distributions by the Ohio EPA's H2Ohio Rivers Chloride Reduction Grant Program.

Struthers will be using the funding grant to purchase 40 steel carbon blades and 10 razor systems.

The program is a 2023 expansion of Governor Mike DeWine's H2Ohio initiative, originally launched in 2019.

The funding aims to alleviate costs to local governments across Ohio while allowing them to proactively reduce their environmental impact.

Ohio EPA previously awarded two rounds of funding from the H2Ohio Rivers Chloride Reduction Grant Program totaling $4.3 million in projects over 80 communities across Ohio.

According to the release, applicants for these grants could apply for funding for either new salt application equipment technology or storage facility construction.

The release states that recent water testing in Ohio has shown an increase in salt concentrations in waterways, attributed to the use of road salt.
