Troopers: Over 100 gallons of diesel fuel spilled in median on Ohio Turnpike in Boardman Township Friday

An accident involving a semitractor-trailer on the Ohio Turnpike has slowed traffic on the eastbound lanes near mile marker 228, just south of US Route 224 in Boardman Township.
According to a report, the crash happened after the semi drove off the left side of the roadway and into a ditch. Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSP) the driver could not tell troopers why the semi went off the road.
First responders called for booms to stop more than 100 gallons of diesel from leaking from the semi. The driver told troopers he had 150 gallons of diesel fuel inside the tank prior to the crash.
Troopers say the diesel fuel did go into the median, but it is unclear if any of it made it into the median drain.
While the driver was taken to the hospital, the report did not list any injuries sustained by the driver.
Traffic was moving slowly in the lanes heading to Pennsylvania in the hours following the accident. The area also has ongoing roadwork and lane restrictions.
The crash happened around 9:30 a.m. Friday.
