The Mahoning County Sheriff's Office will be providing police services in Craig Beach following the resignation of its police chief and several other officers.

This comes after Craig Beach Police Chief Kyle Pettus, Commander Crystal Casterline, Lieutenant Richard Johnson Sergeants Renatta Griffith and Michael Hudson and Patrolman Ernest Hudson all announced their resignation from the police department.

Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene tells 21 News the Sheriff's Office serves unincorporated areas in Mahoning County and assists in incorporated areas.

Now that Craig Beach has no police on duty, the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office will provide police services until the village decides what it is going to do in regards to law enforcement in the village.

The Craig Beach Police Department was only part time meaning there were no full time officers on staff. In the event no one was on duty, the Sheriff's Office provided police services to the village.

"The Mahoning County Sheriff's Office has always subsidized any law enforcement agency in Mahoning County when they needed it," Greene said.

These resignations come after the chief and the officers felt like the village was not supporting the police department citing issues like Village Council not supporting purchasing new cruisers for the department.
