Animal Charity of Ohio is reporting that 28 animals were rescued Monday in what the organization described as an "urgent rescue" operation.
In two separate cases, a total of 23 dogs, one cat, one bearded dragon, one snake, and two ferrets were recovered by Animal Charity and the Mahoning County Dog Warden.
According to Animal Charity, the animals were found living in what they described as deplorable conditions and had allegedly been subjected to neglect and abuse. The organization stated that the living environment in one location was so severe that the house was condemned, and doors had to be forced open due to an accumulation of feces and waste.

The rescued animals are currently receiving treatment for various health issues, including wounds, malnutrition, dehydration, flea infestations, and a lack of proper care. Animal Charity noted that many animals appeared frightened.
The organization said the animals are now in their care and are not currently available for adoption as they undergo necessary medical treatment.
Animal Charity is seeking donations to support the care of these animals. Donations can be made through a link provided online at https://givebutter.com/UIfSfl.
The organization also listed needed items, including 50x60 fleece blankets, Country Brook brand martingale dog collars (specific types listed on wish lists), Retriever brand 6ftx5ftx10ft Lodge Expandable Kennels from Tractor Supply, bleach, small stainless steel water buckets, soft dog treats, and floor dryers. Wishlists for specific toys and enrichment items are also available online.
Donations of physical items can be sent to Animal Charity of Ohio at 8469 Southern Blvd, Building 3, Boardman Ohio 44512.
