Youngstown State University's student newspaper and online news media organization, the Jambar earned recognition at the Ohio News Media Association's Collegiate Newspaper and Website Competition.

The Jambar placed first in "Overall Excellence in Division A", winning out over schools such as The Ohio State University, Ohio University, Bowling Green State University, and the University of Cincinnati.

“It's an honor to be a part of history, especially as a member of The Jambar. It’s exciting to see the hard work that my colleagues have put into the publication be rewarded. It’s also a privilege to be surrounded by great people, who strive to continuously deliver their best possible work," said Jambar Editor-In-Chief John Ostapowicz.

The student news organization also earned first-place honors in the "Sports Coverage" category of the competition.

“It goes to show how much of a creative sports journalism program YSU has. Having the opportunity to go up against the likes of The Ohio State University, Bowling Green State University and the University of Cincinnati and walk away with an overall sports award speaks volumes,” said Ostapowicz

Individual staff members of the Jambar and other student news organizations also received recognition at the competition.

Molly Burke, Christopher Gillet and Dylan Lux placed second in "Best Multimedia Package," and Sydney Fairbanks and Molly Burke placed third in "Arts and Entertainment."

"This type of recognition makes all the hard work seem worth it," said Jambar Sports Editor Dylan Lux. "Family members, close friends, even potential employers can view these awards and I'm very grateful to be recognized for the accomplishments."

The awards were announced on April 3 in Westerville located north of Columbus.
