Youngstown looking for volunteers to clean up on and off ramps this Saturday

The Youngstown City Health District is looking for volunteers to help clean up litter on the on- and off-ramps throughout the city on Saturday, April 12.
Youngstown City Program Coordinator Bob Burke told 21 News that this is the first year they are cleaning up the ramps, saying the trash and litter are the first thing anyone coming into the city sees.
The event, called 'Kick Butt Youngstown,' is to help make Youngstown a more beautiful place by reducing litter. The butt in the name refers to cigarette butts which are part of the litter.
Burke said he got the idea from Columbus, which holds the same type of event. He said he wants to do it again in the fall and make it an annual event.
"I was tired of driving by and seeing the same litter sitting there," Burke said, and decided to take action.
Burke is asking anyone who would like to help clean the ramps to meet at the Covelli Centre parking lot between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Saturday. Supplies for picking up trash, including bags and gloves, will be provided.
Volunteers are asked to wear bright clothes to be easily seen by motorists and can either choose a ramp near their home or ask to be assigned one at the Covelli Centre.
The cleanup will take place between 9 am and 12:30 pm, and volunteers can park wherever in the parking lots or nearby on streets.
Groups helping in the clean-up event include Green Youngstown, The Green Team, the Ohio Department of Transportation, the Community Corrections Association, Pizza Joe's and Youngstown State University.
