Driver in Mercer County buggy robberies won’t face charges

Only one person will face charges in connection with the robbery and attempted robbery of two men driving horse-drawn buggies, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
21 News reported last week that Todd Baker, 33, was taken into custody following an investigation into the incidents that occurred on March 27 in Lackawannock and Wilmington townships.
According to a criminal complaint, the first incident involved a buggy driver on Number 8 Road who reported that a man wearing dark clothing and a medical mask approached his buggy, brandished a pistol, and demanded his wallet. The driver complied, and the man fled in a black sedan.
While troopers were investigating the first incident, a second buggy driver reported an attempted robbery on Leesburg Station Road. The buggy driver said that a man in a black sedan pointed a pistol and demanded his wallet but fled when the horse did not stop.
State police received tips identifying Baker and his cousin as potential suspects.
On April 2, troopers found the black sedan in Lowellville, Ohio, and interviewed the cousin, who agreed to cooperate with the police investigation. The cousin admitted to driving the vehicle during the incidents but said he wanted no part in the crimes. He implicated Baker as the one who used a replica firearm during the crimes.
Later that day, troopers found Baker and searched his vehicle, where they found a replica Glock 17 Airsoft gun.
According to the complaint, the cousin told police that Baker was a passenger in the vehicle and was the one who demanded money from the buggy drivers using the replica pistol. Approximately $90 was reportedly taken in one of the robberies and used to buy drugs.
Baker appeared before a district magistrate on Friday to answer charges of robbery and attempted robbery. The cousin has not been charged.
