'Laying of the Roses' ceremony held at VFW post in Columbiana County

A VFW post in Columbiana County honored those who made the ultimate sacrifice with a Laying of the Roses ceremony Sunday afternoon.
The 3rd Annual Laying of the Roses ceremony was held at the York Drexler Post 5532 in Washingtonville to honor veterans who gave their lives fighting on foreign soil during the Vietnam War.
Family members of fallen veterans placed a single red rose on the table as their names were read out loud. The program also featured an empty chair symbolizing those who may still be held against their will or missing in action from Vietnam.
York Drexler Post 5532 Commander Kim Duble tells 21 News this annual event started in Youngstown, but was brought over to Columbiana County. This is the third year of the ceremony being held in the Columbiana County.
Duble said it's important to remember and honor these veterans so people know where their freedoms came from.
Duble went on to say he's happy to see an interest in the history of the Vietnam War from the younger generation.
"There's a junior class at Crestview High School that's studying the Vietnam War right now. ... I got interviewed by them already and that warmed my heart to see young kids so intently trying to figure out what's going on with the Vietnam War. [There is] a lot of false stories out there and false narratives. They need to know the real truth," Duble said.
