Police in Girard are investigating after a dead dog was discovered behind an abandoned building in the city of Friday.

According to a Facebook post from Healthy Hearts & Paws Project President and CEO Jason Cooke, the dog was found tethered behind an abandoned building near the intersection of Davis Street and Trumbull Avenue Fridday evening.

Cooke says the dog's leash was knotted around two vines in what was determined to be a deliberate act noting marks made by the dog's nails indicating that it was frantically trying to escape.

Cooke tells 21 News there were no security cameras in the vicinity that could have captured the act. At this time, no charges have been filed and police do not have any suspects in mind.
