A West Middlesex man is being held in the Mercer County Jail following his arrest for an armed robbery and an attempted robbery of men driving horse-drawn buggies in Amish country.

Todd Baker, 33, appeared before a district magistrate on Friday to answer charges of robbery and attempted robbery filed by Pennsylvania State Police.

Baker was arrested Wednesday, six days after an armed robbery on Number 8 Road in Lackawannock Township on Thursday evening last week.

A 30-year-old man from Mercer told police that a small black sedan stopped in front of his buggy. A male suspect, described as a white male wearing dark clothing and a medical mask, approached him with a firearm and demanded his wallet. The victim gave the suspect his wallet, and the suspect fled in the sedan.

While at the scene, troopers were contacted about a similar incident on Leesburg Station Road. A second victim, a 22-year-old New Wilmington man, reported that a small black sedan drove alongside his buggy and demanded his wallet. The buggy driver refused to give the suspect his wallet, and the sedan drove away.

The victim told police that the suspect was in the passenger seat, was a white male wearing dark clothing and a medical mask, and was holding a firearm. The driver was unable to describe the driver of the sedan.

As of Friday evening, court records don't show if anyone else has been charged in connection with the crimes.

Baker is scheduled to appear for another court hearing on April 17,
