Mahoning, Trumbull County receive over $394,000 for housing access for those recovering from addiction

Mahoning and Trumbull County are receiving a combined total of more than $394,000 in grants to support access to safe and stable housing for residents recovering from addiction.
This funding is part of $1.2 million from the Ohio Department of Development's Community Development Blog Grant (CDBG) Recovering Housing Program.
Funding for this program is provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and administrated at a state level by the Development's Community Services Division.
Locally, Mahoning County will receive $109,678 to assist 121 people in recovery by providing safe and structured sober housing options.
Meanwhile, Trumbull County will get $284,426 to provide rent stipends for up to 200 residents to support them through their first year in recovery housing through contracts with eight certified providers.
Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik says these grants will allow more Ohioans to reclaim their independence and rebuild their lives.
"Recovery doesn't happen overnight, and no one should have to take that journey alone," Mihalik said.
