Mahoning County Prosecutor Lynn Maro has voiced opposition to the parole of a man convicted in a 1999 murder case.

Barry Goodwin is currently serving an 18-year-to-life prison sentence for the murder of Wesley Moore, who was shot in the head during an argument with Goodwin and another individual.

Moore's body was later found in Mill Creek Park.

Goodwin confessed to the murder, but during his trial, Goodwin claimed he was coerced into that confession. Nevertheless, Goodwin was still found guilty of murder with a firearm specification.

Maro says Goodwin being released on parole would pose a significant threat to public safety citing his extensive record of misconduct while incarcerated.

"Since his incarceration, Goodwin has accumulated over 100 disciplinary infractions including acts of violence, sexual harassment and defiance of prison staff. Nearly 60 of these infractions have occurred in the past decade, with 20 violations recorded in the last two years alone," Maro said.
