Warren mayor to provide city's view on Insight Hospital closings, layoffs during noon news conference

Mayor Doug Franklin will hold a press conference at noon today at Warren City Hall to discuss the status of Insight Hospital & Medical Center Trumbull, the city announced.
The mayor’s executive assistant Valerie Stevenson, told 21 News that the mayor would address the city’s position regarding the hospital situation but did not provide further details. Members of the city council have been invited to attend the news conference.
The press conference comes a day after a class-action lawsuit was filed on behalf of employees laid off from Insight and Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital.
The lawsuit, filed in the wake of Steward Health’s bankruptcy, alleges that hundreds of employees at both Trumbull County hospitals were laid off without warning last week. The suit claims Insight failed to provide the 60-day notice required by the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act.
The lawsuit further alleges that Insight did not pay employees for accrued vacation time or three weeks of wages. It also states that employee health care benefits were terminated on March 31.
21 News will provide live coverage of the mayor's news conference on Facebook at noon.
