The Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office is urging the Ohio Parole Board to deny parole for 64-year-old John Santine.

Santine is serving a 43-year-to-life sentence for his role in a 1995 murder-for-hire plot in Hubbard.

In 1997, Santine was convicted of aggravated murder, aggravated burglary, and attempted aggravated murder with three-year gun specification, in the killing of Ann Serafino and attempted murder of Charles Serafino in 1995.

Prosecutors say Santine orchestrated the crime over a landscaping business dispute, offering $5,000 to co-defendants Jason Getsy, Ben Hudach and Rick McNulty to kill Charles Serafino and any witnesses.

Getsy carried out the murder and was later executed in 2009 by the State of Ohio after his clemency bid was denied.

According to evidence, Charles Serafino was lying wounded on the floor when Getsy struck his mother, Ann, in the head with a revolver, opening a 4-inch gash and then shot her twice, killing her.

Santine, who provided transportation for the killers and later celebrated the crime, is now up for parole in April.

The prosecutor's office strongly opposes his release, stating that Santine has yet to serve his minimum sentence and "deserves no mercy or release."

Officials argue that he should remain behind bars for the remainder of his life in honor of Ann Serafino's memory.
