Campbell Mayor Bryan Tedesco dies
Campbell Mayor Bryan Tedesco has died.
67-year-old Tedesco was elected in the general election in 2021, defeating incumbent Nick Phillips.
City Administrator Judie Clement confirmed the mayor's death, saying he died unexpectedly in his sleep overnight.
Clement told 21 News, "He was the greatest mayor. He will be missed. He was our friend."
Tedesco was also a former longtime Campbell councilman.
The Mayor's office is closed for the rest of the day out of respect for the mayor and Wednesday's city council meeting has been postponed.
A moment of silence took place for Mayor Tedesco in Columbus at the Columbus Drive-In, a Regional Chamber event attended by many local officials, including Youngstown Mayor Tito Brown, who spoke about Tedesco at the event.
Struthers Mayor Catherine Cercone Miller, who was also in Columbus for the meeting, told 21 News that he was one of the best mayors and everyone learning of Tedesco's death was shocked.
Derrick Anderson Sr., Senior Pastor at Jerusalem Baptist Church told 21 News that Bryan Tedesco was truly one of a kind — a man who led with heart, grit, and humility.
Anderson said, "I used to call him 'Champ,' not just because of his days as a Golden Gloves boxer, but because he fought tirelessly for the people of Campbell. He was a true champion of the residents, and he deeply supported our police officers and firefighters."
Anderson said the mayor spoke with pride about his family and said, "[Tedesco] wasn’t the kind of leader who led from behind a desk. It was common to see him working in Roosevelt Park, cleaning up, or helping prepare the baseball fields for the season. He led by example. He was a servant-leader through and through."
"He was the people’s champion — a man of faith, family, and service. Like the Apostle Paul, I believe Mayor Tedesco fought the good fight, and he finished his race well. His legacy in the City of Campbell will not be forgotten," Anderson added.
