East Liverpool City Hospital has been recognized as one of the top medium-sized community hospitals in the United States, according to a ranking by Fortune and Premier.

The hospital placed 11th out of 20 in the medium community hospital category of Premier’s 100 Top Hospitals 2025 list. The ranking, conducted by Premier, a healthcare solutions company, evaluated nearly 2,600 short-term, acute care, and non-federal U.S. hospitals.

Researchers used public Medicare data to assess hospitals on factors including patient experience, operational efficiency, and financial health. East Liverpool City Hospital received maximum five-star ratings for clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, and financial health, and a three-star rating for patient experience.

East Liverpool City Hospital has been included on the 100 Top Hospitals list eight times.

The Premier’s 100 Top Hospitals list aims to highlight institutions that excel in key performance measures, including inpatient mortality, complications, average length of stay, operating profit margin, and healthcare-associated infections.

According to Premier, hospitals on the list demonstrate superior performance, particularly in lowering mortality rates. The study also estimated that if all Medicare patients were served by hospitals performing at the level of those on the list, significant savings in lives and healthcare costs would be realized.

East Liverpool Hospital was established in 1905.
