From Home Savings to Premier to WesBanco, iconic clock tower to change Youngstown's skyline

Youngstown’s skyline, dominated by the iconic clock tower of the former Home Savings and Loan Building, is poised for another change as WesBanco seeks to replace existing signage following its merger with Premier Bank.
Documents submitted to the city’s Department of Community Planning and Economic Development reveal WesBanco’s proposal to install new signs on the high-rise at 275 W. Federal St. The plans call for two illuminated signs, each measuring 35 feet, 8 inches wide by 5 feet, 5.5 inches high, to be placed on the north and south sides of the tower, displaying the WesBanco logo and name.
Additionally, two smaller signs, 12 feet 2 inches wide by 8 feet 7.5 inches high, featuring the WesBanco logo, are planned for the east and west sides. A 22-foot, 1-inch wide by 3-foot, 4.5-inch sign is also proposed for the building’s entrance. All signs will feature backlit lettering.
The proposed changes follow WesBanco’s acquisition of Premier Financial.
The building, constructed in 1919, originally displayed the “Home Savings” name. That was changed to “Premier” in 2020 after Home Savings merged with Premier.
