It's a deadline that's been pushed back more than once, but this time, it's real.

PennDOT and AAA said there's a rush across DMVs in the United States because of Real ID laws taking effect in a few weeks.

Starting May 7th, people will need a REAL ID or a passport to board domestic flights in the U.S.

PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll said 75 percent of people in PA still need one, and DMV locations have been busy.

"PennDOT is being aggressive with respect to opening driver's centers on Mondays where we're traditionally closed," Carroll said.

Unless you have a valid passport, a Real ID is what you need to fly in the U.S.

If you have a black star in the top right corner of your license, then you already have a Real ID.

If not, you'll need to bring these items to a DMV or BMV in person:

Proof of identity, like a birth certificate or passport
Social Security card
Two proofs of address
If your name has ever changed, provide legal documentation.

"A court document or civil document that highlights the name change is really important," Carroll said.

In PA, there's a $30 fee plus a renewal cost.
In Ohio, a Real ID costs the same as a standard license.
