A fire alarm at Newton Falls Elementary School prompted a full evacuation of the building Tuesday morning.

Superintendent Andreas Johansson said in a statement that the alarm triggered an evacuation at the building on Milton Blvd., and students were moved to the nearby high school as a precaution.

All students and staff have returned to the school, according to district officials.

“Thanks to the quick action of our staff and administrative team, all students were safely and calmly moved to the high school,” Johansson said.

The Newton Falls Joint Fire District, Lordstown Fire Department, and Champion Fire Department responded to the scene. Fire crews inspected the inside of the building, and Lordstown personnel accessed the roof to investigate the cause of the alarm, which turned out to be a faulty belt on an exhaust fan.

“Their teamwork ensured a swift resolution and confirmed the building was safe,” Johansson said.

After receiving an all-clear from emergency responders, students and staff returned to the elementary school, and the regular school schedule resumed.

Johansson expressed gratitude to the fire departments for their “rapid and professional response.”
