A federal judge has denied a request for more times for those who objected to the East Palestine derailment settlement to appeal the bond amount.

This comes after the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals denied a motion filed by objectors to the settlement to reduce or eliminate an $850,000 appeal bond, which required each objector to post $170,000 to proceed with their appeals.

In a court filing from Sunday, March 30, federal judge Benita Pearson denied the extension request because the motion was filed on March 21, which was one day after the cutoff date to file an appeal.

The motion to reduce the bond was denied after the appeals court highlighted a procedural inconsistency where the objectors' council originally filed the motion as a "motion for stay," but their subsequent responses indicated that they sought a review of the bond's merits.
