SLIDESHOW: Golf course vandalized at Trumbull Country Club
1/3
Repairs had to be made at the Trumbull Country Club in Warren after an apparent act of vandalism.
The country club's general manager told 21 News two greens on the club's golf course have been vandalized sometime Thursday night or early Friday morning. The damage was discovered by the course Superintendent when making his daily rounds.
Pictures taken of the damage show tire marks on two of the putting greens, as well large divots. Police say the tire marks came from a four-wheeler.
"This is the first time six years I’ve been her that we’ve experienced any type of vandalism," Cory Pagliarini, the clubs General Manager said.
Holes Two and Three were effected but are still playable. Temporary putting greens have been installed at affected holes so that members can still play.
The grounds crew has put in some major work, replacing the divots with grass from the practice green and top dressing the tire marks with sand - hoping things grow back.
“There's going to still be some imperfections but right now we need time. Time and weather,” Nick Province, the course Superintendent said.
Province said his team is trying to stay positive through the labor. The 8 person team has put in more than 80 hours of work since the incident. The greens will be playable again in about a week to ten days according to Province.
“The bad part about timing right now is that it is the Spring. It’s cold, we don’t actively have grass growing,” Province said. “If this happened in July, I would still rather it not have happen, but it would be easy to recover at that point.”
According to the police report, repairs are estimated to cost approximately $6,500.
No suspects have been named and no arrests have been made at this time. Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to call the country club directly at 330-372-4024.
"We won’t let the bad guys win," Pagliarini said.
