We've received another major update in the rapidly developing situation involving Insight and two hospitals it owns in Trumbull County.

American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees local president Tom Connelly tells 21 News Insight, who owns Insight Hospital & Medical Center Trumbull and Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital has just fired all of the hospital's upper staff.

This includes the director of nursing, the assistant director of nursing, the human resources coordinator and even the administrative secretary.

Connelly says this happened around 2:30 Friday afternoon and no reason was given as to why they were being fired.

"They were all walked out to their cars by security and they're gone," Connelly said.

Connelly says he has no further details about what exactly led up to this, but says no severance package was discussed with them.

"It's really not my business except that they're our bosses and I don't know who I'm supposed to communicate to now," Connelly said.

Connelly adds that these firings are separate from the furloughs that happened after both hospitals temporarily shut down all of its departments including the emergency department.

All the while, hospital employees still have not received updates on their paychecks, which were not deposited on time Friday morning. Insight issued a memo to hospital employees Friday morning telling them their paychecks would be delayed due to "unforeseen circumstances."

"I just can't tell you how disappointed I am in these people who are supposed to be devoting their lives to taking care of sick people. They should be ashamed of themselves, the whole bunch of them," Connelly said.
