The estates of the four people killed in an explosion at an Ellsworth Township home in October of 2024 are suing a local company that was performing home improvement work on the home prior to the explosion.

According court records, the estates of Jeffery and Joann Kocanyar, as well as Adam and Julie Lubic are suing Window World in a wrongful death suit.

A State Fire Marshal's report revealed that workers were at the home on the 8500 Block of Huxley Road the day before the explosion working on siding in the garage and on the back of the house.

At that time, witnesses reported hearing "a lot of hammering going on" and another witness said the workers were "banging on the house so hard they broke a water line" and the basement was flooding.

According to the suit, the company performing that work was Window World. The suit accuses the company of causing damage to the propane gas line at the home, which in turn allowed for propane to escape into the home.

The State Fire Marshal's report says a propane leak is believed to have caused the explosion.

The estates are asking for an amount in excess of $25,000 plus interest, court costs and attorney's fees on each individual count of wrongful death, as well as a trial by jury in this matter.

21 News has reached out to Window World for comment on this litigation and received the following statement from owner Pat Moran:

"We are deeply saddened by the tragic event that took place on October 5th, 2024. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones affected. Window World maintains that we are not responsible for causing this unfortunate incident.
