#1 Cochran Cadillac building to become Columbiana's future city hall
Editor's note: This story has been updated to clarify that the dealership is not for sale, only the building that houses the dealership. The building will be leased back to #1 Cochran until plans for a new location are announced.
In the wake of Caffe Capri in Boardman announcing its imminent closure and sale to #1 Cochran, the latter of the two businesses will be selling the building that houses Columbiana Cadillac along South Main Street in Columbiana to the city.
It comes more than a year after #1 Cochran acquired Flynn Auto Group dealers, including the Columbiana location.
"Definitely sad to see it go and we know an empty building wouldn't be great on South Main Street like that so we thought we could repurpose it." said Lance Willard, Columbiana city manager.
The city of Columbiana is in the process of purchasing the building and anticipates closing on the property in April.
However, the dealership isn't moving to a new location right away.
"They'll have the ability to lease it back, six months at a time, however long they need it and then we'll get in here and do the conversion and move our city hall in the middle of town," Willard added.
"The city has been looking for a new city hall for the last 10-15 years, we're kind of busting at the seams at the current place." Willard explained.
Willard says the building is an ideal location for the city's new home, right along the main drag with a showroom for office space, and a giant service garage tailor-made for housing a fleet of police vehicles.
