A Youngstown man is facing several charges after police say he tried to steal a catalytic converter off of a vehicle for sale in Liberty Township.

According to a police report, police spotted a man, identified as 46-year-old Danny Daviduk, laying underneath a Chevrolet Trailblazer for sale in a parking lot on Belmont Avenue.

Police heard a sawzall running, but say it stopped once the K9 unit barked. Police say Daviduk then came out from under the vehicle and was soon detained.

When officers looked under the car, they saw a fresh cut mark on the catalytic converter pipe according to the report. Police spoke to the owner of the vehicle who told police no one was supposed to be working on the vehicle and the catalytic converter had just been replaced.

Additionally, police say they found two freshly cut catalytic converters along with several tools used to remove catalytic converters in the trunk of the suspect vehicle.

The report also states police found suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia in the suspect vehicle.

Court records show Daviduk is charged with several felonies including vandalism, theft, receiving stolen property and possession of criminal tools, as well as a misdemeanor charge of drug paraphernalia offenses.

He was arraigned on Wednesday, March 26 and is due back in court Wednesday, April 2.
