Emergency court motion seeks retrieval of medical equipment from Insight Trumbull

A medical equipment leasing company has filed an emergency motion in U.S. Bankruptcy Court, seeking to compel Insight Foundation of Trumbull to comply with a prior sale order related to Trumbull Regional Medical Center and Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital.
According to documents filed Wednesday in the Southern District of Texas, Post Road Equipment Finance alleges that Insight has failed to fulfill its obligations regarding leased medical equipment at Trumbull Regional, despite a court-approved hospital sale to Insight.
The filing states that Steward Health Care System, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May 2024, had leased surgical, imaging, and other medical equipment from Post Road.
When the Trumbull facility was sold to Insight, the sale order specified that the leased equipment was excluded from the transaction, and the parties were to reach an agreement on its disposition.
Post Road claims that, following initial discussions with Insight about a potential purchase agreement for the equipment, Insight failed to make agreed-upon payments and has since ceased communication. Post Road is now seeking a court order to enforce the original sale agreement and allow them to retrieve their equipment.
The bankruptcy court documents indicate that Post Road is requesting an order compelling Insight to allow them to remove the leased medical equipment within five business days.
Insight has not yet filed a court response to Post Road’s motion and has not responded to a 21 News request for comment.
This legal action occurs amid operational challenges at the Trumbull and Hillside hospitals, both operated by Insight. Recent reports indicate that Steward's cessation of funding has led to the suspension of most inpatient and outpatient services at both facilities.
Furthermore, Insight’s president, Gray Goncz, resigned after only two weeks in the role, citing disagreements regarding the hospitals’ future direction. Dr. Jawad Shah has been appointed the new president of both hospitals.
Insight has stated that the emergency department at Trumbull Regional Medical Center will remain open, along with laboratory and radiology services. The company has also indicated that staff furloughs are expected to be temporary, with a goal of recalling them by October.
