A former Mahoning County woman who pled guilty to the murder of her 3-year-old son in Akron almost nine years ago has learned her fate on Thursday.

Thirty-five-year-old Amanda Jo Bunner was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for the murder of her toddler son, Jaxon Bunner, who died in April of 2016 in a home on the 300 Block of Palm Avenue in Akron.

If she is released, Bunner must register as a violent offender.

A jury in Summit County Common Pleas Court found Bunner guilty of the crime following trial last month.

Bunner lived on Salem Warren Road in Green Township before being arrested in April of 2023 in connection with Jaxon's murder.

The Summit County Medical Examiner told 21 News that the cause of death for the 3-year-old was a massive subdural hematoma and concluded that his brain injuries, along with bruises on his body and malnourished frame, were the result of child abuse.

"The death of Jaxon Bunner was a preventable tragedy, and my sympathies go out to his family," said Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich in a statement released on Facebook. "There is no tolerance for child abuse in Akron, and it breaks my heart every time a case like this comes to our office."
