ATM bolted to floor thwarts burglary attempt at Youngstown business

A suspect who brought a box truck and a power tool to steal an automatic teller machine from a business on Youngstown’s Southside drove away empty-handed, according to police.
Responding to an alarm drop at a business on the 2500 block of Market Street early Tuesday, officers found the steel security gate forced open and the front door shattered. Police redacted the name of the business from the report.
Finding no one inside the building, the owner showed a security video to the officers.
According to the report, the video showed a mid-sized white box truck with no markings pulling into the parking lot and backing up to the front door at 6 a.m.
A man got out of the truck and used a power tool to cut the lock on the security gate.
After forcing the gate open, the suspect attached what appeared to be a tow strap to the glass front door. The box truck then accelerated forward, shattering the door and frame.
The suspect took a dolly from the truck and entered the business, attempting to remove an ATM. However, police said the ATM was bolted to the floor, and the suspect was unsuccessful.
The suspect got back into the truck and left the parking lot, driving north on Market Street at a high rate of speed.
The Youngstown Police Department’s crime lab was called to the scene to collect evidence in hopes of identifying the suspect.
