The Pittsburgh Pirates will be without starting pitcher Jared Jones for the beginning of the season.

According to a report from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Jones doesn't have any torn ligaments in his elbow and won't need surgery.

Jones missed his final Spring Training start following discomfort in his elbow after a bullpen session.

The young pitcher isn't expected to throw for six weeks, which keeps him out until May 6 before he starts his rehab assignment.

Pirates manager Derek Shelton moved Carmen Mlodzinski into the starting rotation in place of Jones.

Jones finished last season with a 6-8 record, 22 starts and a 4.14 ERA. He posted 132 strikeouts and 39 walks.
