Youngstown couple found guilty on child abuse charges

A Youngstown couple has been found guilty on Tuesday of multiple charges connected to an instance of child abuse.
Both 43-year-old Christopher Hill and 33-year-old Maleka Curry were found guilty on two felony counts of endangering children and one count of felonious assault.
The charges stem from an incident that took place in May of 2024 and involved a juvenile who was 13 years old at the time of the incident.
According to a police report, the teen was entered as a runaway juvenile who was found at the Southern Park Mall in Boardman and was brought back to his Bissell Avenue early in the morning.
The report states that police spoke with the principal and school nurse at East Middle School who were told by the teen that Curry and Hill had beaten him after he was found that morning.
The teen told police Hill hit him with an unknown object. Police saw several marks on him indicating that he was hit with a thin object. Police said the teen had injuries to both of his arms, his left armpit, his shoulder blades and his middle and lower back.
The teen told police this was not the first time something like this happened.
The two will be sentenced following a pre-sentencing investigation.
