Boardman's St. Elizabeth Cancer Center celebrates 25 years in the Valley

St. Elizabeth Cancer Center opened its doors in January of 2000. This year the hospital celebrates 25 years of operation in the Valley.
The cancer center is led by oncologist Dr. Patrizia Guerrieri who has 30-plus years of experience in the field of cancer. Dr. Guerrieri says it's been "an honor for our Cancer Center to serve this community for the past 25 years."
Last year the cancer center treated around 300 new patients and performed 5,000 radiation therapy treatments.
"Cancer is a difficult journey, but having access to high-quality care without leaving your support network is invaluable," said Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital president Genie Aubel.
Two cancer center employees have worked at the facility since the ribbon was cut 25 years ago, that being secretary Angela Ritz and dosimetrist Jeanette Rotz.
"It's been a privilege to be a part of the Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Boardman Cancer Center for more than two decades. To experience the transformation of what started as a small, one-story radiation oncology building 25 years ago to an entire medical campus today is truly remarkable," said Ritz.
The cancer center was the first building on the St. Elizabeth Boardman campus, as the hospital officially opened its doors in 2007.
