Part of Route 18 in New Castle is set to close for about one month beginning Monday.

Route 18 (Mahoning Avenue) between Industrial Street and McKinley Street in New Castle is set to close between 7 a.m. on Monday, March 24 and last until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22 weather permitting.

The closure is for crews to conduct excavation work, manhole rehabilitation and base repairs. Crews from Lindy Paving will conduct the work.

During the closure, cars will be detoured from Route 18 onto North Liberty Street to West Washington Street to North Columbus Interbelt to Route 18 (Jefferson Street) and reverse. Jefferson street will become Moravia Street and Moravia Street will become Mahoning Avenue.

The southbound truck detour will be Route 18 to Mt. Jackson Road (Route 108) to Route 317 (Edinburg Road) to Route 551 to Route 224 (West State Street) to Route 18 (Jefferson Street).

The northbound truck detour will be Route 18 to Route 224 (West Falls Street) westbound to Route 551 (Jackson Street) to Route 317 eastbound to Mt. Jackson Road (Route 108) back to Route 18.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is asking that drivers exercise caution when driving in the area.
