Akron Children’s Hospital will open a food pantry on its Boardman campus to address food insecurity among patients, the hospital announced.

The “Food Farmacy” will provide a three- to five-day supply of food to income-eligible patient families. Monthly visits will be prescribed to patients from the primary care and endocrinology practices in Boardman, the hospital said.

The pantry, stocked in collaboration with the Second Harvest Foodbank, is designed to identify and support patients, particularly children with chronic health issues, who are experiencing food insecurity.

The Food Farmacy will be located on the first floor of Building A and will be open Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, March 24, at the hospital’s Beeghly Campus, Building A, Leonard J. Fisher Family Building, 6505 Market St., Boardman.
