Those walking their pets in downtown Salem will now be able to clean up their waste without needing to bring their own bags.
Salem Mayor Cyndi Dickey tells 21 News multiple dog waste stations were installed in the city with one being installed in McCulloch Park, another being installed in the Lincoln Plaza and several more installed throughout downtown.
Dickey says this will act as a way for those walking their dogs to clean up their waste without needing to bring their own bags.
Dickey adds that this was not a project from the city, but the community organization Downtown Salem Partnership. The project was spearheaded by First Ward Councilwoman Sara Baer.
Baer tells 21 News 16 businesses sponsored this project this time around and Downtown Salem Partnership will be looking for eight more for more installations next year.
