An officer with the Youngstown Police Department was arraigned Tuesday morning after being charged with OVI and a weapons offense last week.

According to a report from the Ohio State Highway Patrol's (OSP's) Trumbull County post, a trooper pulled over a vehicle going 75 miles per hour (mph) in a 65 mph zone on SR-11 south in Liberty Township just before midnight on Friday.

The trooper says prior to the stop, the vehicle was excessively moving back and forth in its lane with its tires touching the center lane multiple times.

According to the report, the driver was identified as 34-year-old Joshua Rivers, who identified himself as a police officer with the Youngstown Police Department. The trooper says he denied having alcohol and refused to take a field sobriety test after being given the opportunity twice.

Rivers was arrested for OVI. Additionally, the trooper says a search of Rivers' vehicle revealed a loaded gun with YPD's emblem on it in the center console.

According to court records, Rivers is charged with OVI and improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle. He was arraigned in Girard Tuesday morning.

Court records do not show Rivers' next appearance at this time.
