Sharon Regional holds open house days before reopening

With just days until Sharon Regional Medical Center finally reopens, the community is celebrating.
Community leaders, staff and people in Sharon celebrated the reopening of Sharon Regional Medical Center at an open house Sunday afternoon.
“Just by being in the room today, it's just excitement. We’ve all been waiting for this for a long time,” said Vince Pavia, Nursing supervisor at Sharon Regional Medical Center.
Sharon city manager Robert Fiscus, State Senator Michele Brooks and leadership of Tenor Health Partners spoke at the open house.
While exciting, the reopening is also a relief to many employees.
“Knowing what was going on in the community. The wait times that patients had to go through at different hospitals, it was very trying, and trying to keep holding onto my staff. All those things were difficult, but we made it. We're at the finish line,” said Sara Miller, critical care services director at Sharon Regional Medical Center.
“It was a roller coaster, up and down, up and down, up and down. And there were moments when you were afraid that it wasn't going to happen,” said Mary Hoagland registered nurse at Sharon Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Valeri Roth, Chief of Surgery at Sharon Regional Medical Center, said the closure has been difficult for her patients, and the entire community.
“Listening to the difficulties of problems that my patients, and the members of the community have had with the loss of Sharon Regional, with it being closed, it is clearly a necessary item to this community,” said Roth.
Despite months of uncertainty, hundreds of employees stayed with the hospital.
“We got an amazing staff, and their sacrifice and commitment during this time of transition has been incredible. So, we still have over 600 employees that are committed to this facility and getting it reopened,” said Butch Eaveson, CEO of Sharon Regional Medical Center.
In the final days before reopening, staff are working on final details to ensure patient safety. This includes testing the hospital's systems and making sure all units are ready for patients.
Radha Savitala, CEO of Tenor Health Partners, said the first few days of reopening will be a transition.
“We are not getting our full array of services yet. We are opening our ED [emergency department], med-surg, the ICU, as well as behavioral health. But surgery and the cath lab are going to come later,” said Savitala.
All services are expected to be offered at Sharon Regional within a few weeks of reopening.
Savitala confirmed Friday that the hospital will be reopening Tuesday. Tenor Health purchased the hospital in late January.
