State Senator: Sharon Regional Hospital reopening a 'critical victory'

Sharon Regional Medical Center will reopen Tuesday, months after closing due to its previous owner’s bankruptcy, Tenor Health CEO Radha Savitala confirmed Friday.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health approved the reopening after “close engagement” with Tenor Health to ensure patient safety, the state said in a release.
The hospital, which closed Jan. 6 under previous owner Steward Health, will resume full services March 18. Tenor Health purchased the hospital in late January.
“The reopening of Sharon Regional Medical Center is a critical victory for the health and safety of our community,” said state Sen. Michele Brooks.
The reopening was delayed from an initially projected early February date. An official with the hospital said the state Department of Health was initially hesitant to approve the reopening due to unresolved issues, but determined the issues could be addressed while the hospital was operational.
“The Department of Health’s top priority is patient safety at Sharon Regional and all other health care facilities across the Commonwealth,” said Secretary of Health Dr. Debra Bogen. “Dedicated DOH staff have spent extensive time and energy, working hundreds of hours, seven days a week to make certain that the hospital is in substantial compliance with regulatory standards.”
Tenor Health will operate the facility under Steward Health’s license while pursuing a change in ownership to transfer licensure.
An open house for hospital staff and the community will be held Sunday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The state Department of Health licenses Pennsylvania hospitals and oversees whether facilities follow established minimum health and safety standards.
