A Sharpsville faces charges after the SUV he's accused of stealing from his mother crashed on Interstate 80 in Ohio early Friday.

According to Hermitage Police, officers were dispatched around 2:00 a.m. to the intersection of East State Street and North Buhl Farm Drive in Hermitage following a report of a woman being ejected from a vehicle.

The woman told police that her 42-year-old son Eric Gibson arrived at her home bleeding from wounds on his leg and chest, stating that he had been stabbed and required medical attention. While she was driving him to a hospital, he forcibly removed her from the Honda Element and drove away at a high speed, according to the woman who received minor injuries.

Not long after the Element struck a guardrail and flipped over on Interstate 80 in Hubbard, on the Ohio side of the state line. First responders also found a damaged station wagon at the crash site.

A man found walking west of the crash scene was taken to a Youngstown hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Hermitage police have sought an arrest warrant for Gibson on charges of robbery of a motor vehicle, theft, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person.

Police say how and where Gibson sustained his injuries remains unknown.
