Former Mayor of East Liverpool dies at 73

An obituary from the Dawson Funeral Home in East Liverpool announced the passing of former East Liverpool Mayor, James Swoger, who passed away on March 11 at Heritage Valley Post Acute Medical.

Swoger was born on July 11, 1951 in East Liverpool.

According to the obituary, Swoger worked as a brick mason for East Liverpool Local 10, Penn Power and the Ferro Corporation.

He also served as the Mayor of East Liverpool for 12 years, serving three terms. He is also credited in the obituary with caring for the Thompson Park Pool for 18 years with his wife.

Two visitation services are being offered where the family will be present:

• March 14 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home, 215 West 5th Street, East Liverpool
• March 14 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home, 215 West 5th Street, East Liverpool

The service will be held on March 15 beginning at 11 a.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home, 215 West 5th Street, East Liverpool.
