Long-serving pastor of Youngstown Diocese announces his retirement

A bulletin from the Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel - Saint Anthony Parish announced the retirement of a long-time serving pastor - Very Reverend Monsignor (Very Rev. Msgr.) Michael Cariglio.

In the bulletin, Cariglio says that he was originally named the Pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in 1986 on July 1.

Bishop Bonnar had visited Cariglio in March 2024 to offer him the choice of retirement then, or remain until July 1, 2025.

Cariglio says that he chose to stay until July 1, 2025. Now, he has received an official letter from Bishop Bonnar, making his official retirement date July 1, 2025.

Cariglio has served as Pastor/Rector for 39 years.

"In summary, these almost forty years have been very very real and though briefly put, it should not be any other way," said Cariglio in the bulletin.

According to the bulletin, Bishop Bonnar is being proactive in considering who will follow Cariglio as the next Pastor/Rector.
