Two separate dog attacks in Boardman over the weekend resulted in the death of a small dog and injuries to another, according to police reports.

In the first incident, Boardman police responded to a report of an animal problem on Macachee Drive after a dog attack that occurred around 8 p.m. Saturday. A woman reported that she was walking her Jack Russell terrier, named "Pizza," when two dogs, a Labrador Retriever and a Cocker Spaniel, charged into the street from a neighboring yard.

The woman told officers she picked up her dog to prevent an attack, but the terrier jumped from her arms. The Labrador Retriever then grabbed the terrier in its mouth, causing a puncture wound to its lung, according to the report.

The terrier was taken to a veterinary emergency clinic where it died early Sunday morning.

The Labrador Retriever and Cocker Spaniel’s owner admitted to police that the dogs were not confined to the yard at the time of the attack and that an invisible fence system was not working. The owner was issued a citation for failing to keep a dog physically confined or restrained. She waived her right to a hearing in Mahoning County Court #2.

In a separate incident on Sunday afternoon, Boardman police responded to a report of a dog attack on Ridgewood Drive. A woman reported that her 5-year-old Goldendoodle was attacked in front along the 5700 block of Glenwood Ave. around 1:25 p.m.

The woman told officers that her dog sustained two puncture wounds to the back of its neck and minor lacerations to its left side. The attack occurred when she was walking her dog on the sidewalk.

The owner of a Cane Corso told police that her dog broke through an invisible fence in her front yard and bit the Goldendoodle. The owner was issued a citation for failing to keep a dog physically confined or restrained.

The owner of the Goldendoodle told police she did not wish to file criminal charges, but wanted documentation of the incident.

Both incidents were forwarded to the Mahoning County Dog Warden's Office for review.
