A man who plead guilty to killing his mother in Neshannock Township back in 2022 will be spending the next several decades in prison.

39-year-old Shane McDevitt pled guilty to felony counts of third degree murder and strangulation, as well as two misdemeanor counts of possessing instruments of crime.

The charges stem from the death of 65-year old Cecilia Liposky, who died in a home on the 2800 Block of Mercer Road back in May of 2022.

According to a criminal complaint, police found Liposky in the home lying on the floor with blood scattered around her. Her cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma to her head.

Police found a round glass decorative piece, as well as a claw hammer both smeared with blood near Liposky's body.

Police say McDevitt, who is Liposky's son, was staying at the home in the days leading up to the murder. Police say his vehicle was at the home when police found the body, but Liposky's vehicle was missing.

Early the following morning, police saw Liposky's vehicle on the road and tried to stop it, leading police on a chase that ended with the vehicle crashing into a utility pole according to the complaint.

Police found McDevitt in the truck and arrested him. According to the complaint, when he was being taken to the police station, he admitted to police he killed Liposky without police asking him about it.

During an interview with police, McDevitt further admitted to repeatedly hitting Liposky with the round piece of glass and the claw hammer.

McDevitt was sentenced to 50 years in prison in a Lawrence County Common Pleas Court Friday.
