According to a news release, House Bill 64 (HB 64) passed through the Ohio House and will now be headed toward the Ohio Senate.
HB 64 is a bill that proposes to revise the age for senior discounts on hunting, fishing, trapping and other sportsmen licenses and permits from 66, as it currently stands in Ohio Revised Code, to 65.
The discount for fishing licenses lowers the traditional $24 resident license to $9 for seniors. As for hunting licenses, the discounted price would be $9, from the regular adult cost of $18.
According to one of the primary bill sponsors, State Representative David Thomas (R-Jefferson), he is unsure why the age provision of 66 has been in place so long, but he is grateful to a constituent who messaged him on the first day in office to make him aware of the age provision.
The bill will now be considered by the Ohio Senate.
