Two injured in crash near Southern Park Mall

A two-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 224 in Boardman Township late Sunday resulted in injuries, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
According to the Canfield Post of the patrol, the crash occurred near Southern Boulevard at approximately 11:30 p.m.
Troopers say Anthony Viviano, 54, of New Castle, Pennsylvania, was driving a 2008 Nissan Sentra westbound on U.S. Route 224 when his vehicle was struck from behind by a 2024 Toyota Camry driven by Matthew Brocker, 36, of Canfield, Ohio.
Witnesses told troopers that Brocker was traveling at a high rate of speed.
The impact caused Viviano's Sentra to strike a curb before landing on a sidewalk west of Southern Boulevard. Brocker's Camry overturned and slid on its roof until it struck a utility pole west of Marinthana Avenue.
Viviano sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital. Brocker was also transported to the hospital for evaluation of possible injuries.
Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation by the highway patrol.
