Ohioans may have to pay a little bit more to renew their vehicle's title and registration under Ohio's new proposed budget.
A representative from Ohio's Office of Budget and Management (OBM) confirmed with 21 News that the latest version of Ohio's proposed executive budget includes a $10 increase in vehicle registration fees and a $3 increase in vehicle title fees.
According to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles' (BMV's) website, the current price to renew the registration for a passenger vehicle in Ohio is $31 and the current title certification fee is $15.
These fees would be increased to $41 and $18 respectively under the new budget.
The OBM representative told 21 News that the reason for this proposed increase is to sustain funding for the Ohio State Highway Patrol's (OSP's) operations.
According to OSP's website, funding for the Highway Patrol largely consists of revenue generated by license and registration fees with the Patrol's budget being divided into three main areas.
78% of the funds are spent on human resources, 15% are used for maintenance items and 7% is earmarked for equipment needs.
