Penguin Club holds 34th Annual Scholarship Ring Banquet
The Penguin Club held its 34th Annual Scholarship Ring Banquet at Mr. Anthony's in Boardman Monday night.
The event honors YSU student-athletes, coaches, alumni and supportive fans and community members.
Rick Fryda and Jim and Cathy Morrison were recognized as 2025 Penguins of the Year.
Fryda is in his 45th year at Compco and serves on Youngstown State's Board of Trustees, while the Morrisons have been involved with the university for nearly 60 years.
"A way for us to celebrate some Penguins of the Year and Rick Fryda, who's a great supporter of ours, Jim and Cathy Morrison who have been mainstays with Youngstown State University for 60 years," said Tom Morella, YSU assistant athletic director.
Five YSU teams were also honored for capturing Horizon League championships -- women's tennis, softball, men's cross country, men's track and field and women's bowling.
Money raised at the event goes to scholarships and championship rings.
"This is our marquee event on our fundraising calendar," said Morella. "It's a great opportunity for our boosters and sponsors to meet our student-athletes."
