A Mahoning Valley nonprofit is continuing its mission of helping children in need, thanks to a generous donation from Walmart. Live Like Lindsey, founded in honor of Lindsey Villanueva, received 50 brand-new winter coats as part of a larger 300-coat donation from the Liberty Walmart over the past month.

Lindsey Villanueva started collecting and donating coats in 2018, but after she passed away from a brain aneurysm in 2021, her husband Tony Villanueva and her family turned her passion into a lasting legacy.

Since becoming an official nonprofit in 2022, Live Like Lindsey has grown significantly, providing coats to children in need, foster programs, and families in crisis across multiple Ohio counties.

“This was Lindsey’s passion, and we knew we had to keep it going,” Villanueva said. “Every donation we receive goes directly to children who need it most.”

Walmart store manager Robyn Mediate said the Liberty Walmart was eager to support the cause after learning about Live Like Lindsey’s impact. She said Walmart associates came together over the past month to contribute to the 300-coat donation, ensuring even more children have access to warm winter clothing.

“Tony approached me last year, and I knew Walmart had to be a part of this,” Mediate said. “We worked with surrounding stores to make it happen, and this final round of coats will help keep even more kids warm this winter.”

With growing community support, Live Like Lindsey is now distributing nearly 900 coats this season—double the number Lindsey was able to donate in her final year.

Villanueva said the organization is already looking ahead to next winter and encourages the community to get involved.
